Claims by the EPA that it is being held stagnant due to a counter-claim by the chemical industry is preventing stricter enforcement of water quality standards. If the EPA fails to the chemical industry it will only bolster the reputation of the EPA's inability to uphold the Safe Drinking Water Act. If hexavalent chromium exposure in drinking water is not addressed in due time, the resulting health impacts will claim unprecedented  number of victims and have devastating impacts to the overall ecosystem that all life depends.

As of August 2016, the EWG alongside activist Erin Brockovich is pushing for the EPA to change the nationwide MCL to be more reflective of the California standards. This response comes as result of the resignation of a top state health official in North Carolina. Governor Pat McCrory had been attempting to remove warnings against drinking water potentially contaminated by hexavalent chromium from Duke Energy coal burning facilities. The confusion on the regulating guidelines and health safety of hexavalent chromium within drinking water has led to multiple standards. The EWG's push for stricter national guidelines is done in hopes to eliminate the confusion among citizens and state officials as well as to protect the health of the population from this carcinogen.

To further complicate matters, increasing levels of tritium (a radioactive isotope) has become ubiquitous within the hydrological cycle. Which is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth. The source of this element which is also known as hydrogen-3 bonds with the hydrogen molecule making it virtually impossible to separate with conventional technologies..The processing & operations of the nuclear power & weapons industry is responsible for the production of tritium and is heavily dependent on this element as a excelerant for the fission process which has a half-life of about 12  1/2 years or 120 years before it's considered inert. The health effects associated with tritium poisoning is related to the vestibular system or sensory system. The brain uses information from the vestibular system in the head and from proprioception throughout the body to understand the body's dynamics and kinematics (including its position and acceleration) from moment to moment & can effect large populations in unpredictable ways.

In the US alone, today; over 100 billion tonnes of heavy water is released into the environment each year from nuclear plants since the first nuclear reactor to produce electricity (albeit a trivial amount) was the small Experimental Breeder reactor (EBR-1) designed and operated by Argonne National Laboratory and sited in Idaho, USA. The reactor started up in December 1951. As of February 04, 2016 in 31 countries there are 442 nuclear power plant units in operation.

In 1953 President Eisenhower proposed his Orwellian newspeak slogan  "Atoms for Peace" program, which reoriented significant research effort towards electricity generation and set the course for civil nuclear energy development in the USA. Long before Eisenhower's proposal, the road to make nuclear science accepted by the public despite the obvious & well understood hazards was a number of ad campaigns led by Edward Bernays better known as the father of modern day propaganda. 

Looking into the future the  ITER  facility in France is expected to finish its construction phase in 2019. It will start commissioning the reactor that same year and initiate plasma experiments in 2020, but is not expected to begin full deuterium-tritium fusion until 2027.

To add fuel to the fire so to speak accident sites like Fukushima Japan & Indian Point New York have been hemorrhaging  unprecedented amounts of tritium into the environment. In NY reports of 120,000% higher than the maximum allowable limits were detected earlier in 2016 & in Japan estimates of over 300 tonnes a day are flowing out into the Pacific from ground water sources alone.

BTW: That's not the only bad news for water.  Samples taken from geoengineering atmospheric chemical spraying campaigns have detected extraordinary levels of aluminum, barrium, live viruses, nano technology & a host of other toxins that further compromises & accelerates the unraveling of the fragile biosphere. The heat generated from tritium & other radioactive material dispersed into the water coupled with the fallout from jets spraying is not only compromising the biosphere but also weakening an already depleted atmosphere allowing dangerous levels of UVA, UVB & X-Rays to penetrate the ozone layer & reach the earth. At the bottom of the sea beds especially in the polar ice caps is the release of methane gas transforming the atmosphere into a Venus like environment, unsustainable for life as we know it on Earth.

While all this havoc is being waged against the Earth itself and all it's inhabitants, look where the attention is given in the media.

We are in big trouble and need to get our priorities straight or distant visions of sugar plumbs will be all that's left.
